Bed sheet sizes need three mattress measurements: width, length and total height with any topper. The fitted sheet matches the mattress footprint and has a stated pocket limit. Flat sheets have separate finished dimensions that vary by range. Don't use a mattress chart as a flat-sheet chart.
Measure the mattress before choosing a sheet size. Use the common US footprints below as a reference, then check the actual mattress and fitted-sheet label. Record the full height through toppers and protectors. For a flat sheet, compare its finished width and length with the coverage you want. Split and adjustable beds need their exact configuration checked separately.

The common footprints use Saatva's mattress dimensions. Convert at 1 inch = 2.54 cm, per NIST, then round centimeters to one decimal place. Compare these mattress measurements with the separate finished flat-sheet dimensions.
Bed sheet sizes: manufacturer range records
These records separate the common US mattress footprint from the maker's fitted cut, stated mattress-height fit and finished flat sheet. A fitted cut can exceed the mattress width. Do not substitute it for a mattress measurement. Both units remain in the records for printing and reading without JavaScript.

Brooklinen calls 12 to 16 inches (30.5 to 40.6 cm) the best mattress-height fit. The Company Store gives a 14-inch (35.6 cm) pocket and says it fits mattresses up to 16 inches (40.6 cm); the minimum usable height is UNKNOWN. These statements describe different measurements.
The Company Store's King fitted width is 78 inches (198.1 cm), as published. Its shared Twin/Twin XL flat cut is shorter than Brooklinen's Twin XL cut. Neither chart supplies a shrinkage tolerance. Recheck the exact range before ordering.
Measure height with the topper in place
Put any topper and protector on the mattress first. Measure vertically from the bottom of the mattress to the highest sleeping surface. Compare that total with the fitted sheet's stated maximum mattress height.
Don't assume a taller pocket fixes the wrong width or length. A twin sheet can be too short for twin XL even if both fit a similar mattress height. Elastic isn't a substitute for checking the footprint.
Flat sheets need their own chart
Find the finished flat-sheet dimensions for the exact size variant. Compare the width with the mattress and the side coverage you want. Check the length from your chosen head position to the foot, including any tuck.

Split and adjustable beds
A split king commonly uses two separate fitted pieces, but confirm the actual mattress layout. Partial splits and one-piece mattresses need different handling. Follow the bed manual for fabric clearance around moving parts.
Keep each fitted piece's size visible in storage. An overall bed name doesn't tell you whether a single fitted sheet will work. The mattress and base instructions take priority over a generic size table.

Can a king sheet fit a California king?
Don't assume it can. The common mattress footprints above differ in both directions. A sheet with the wrong cut may be short or loose even when the bed names sound similar. Check the fitted sheet's exact intended footprint and pocket limit before choosing a size.
Does a pocket label give all the dimensions?
No. It describes a height allowance or pocket measurement, depending on the maker's wording. You still need the intended mattress width and length. Ask whether a stated pocket measurement is the maximum mattress height if that isn't clear. Don't treat an unexplained number as a fit guarantee.
Verdict on bed sheet sizes
