Our sleep research uses US public data. Each report says what the figures mean and how much doubt remains. Use them to ask questions about groups. They can't choose a treatment or prove that bedding helps you sleep.
County short sleep
Short sleep geography looks at county figures from CDC PLACES. We use the 2025 release, which draws its sleep data from the 2022 survey. The table keeps the age adjustment and source error ranges. Search by county or state, or download all the rows as a CSV file.
Duration and feeling rested
Sleep duration and restfulness uses two answers from each adult in the 2024 NHIS file. We first check two figures against the published report. Then we look at hours of sleep and feeling rested together. The table says which group each share refers to and shows its error range.
Household children and diary time
Adults with household children: 2025 sleep diaries compares BLS sleeping-category time by household child presence and weekday or weekend. It gives weighted means, sample counts and survey error. The BLS definition includes naps and sleeplessness. Household child presence does not establish parenthood.
Using and citing the reports
Each report names the source release and the date of our work. You can download tables for groups, with no individual records. When you cite a figure, give the report and survey year. Don't use the download date as though it were the year people took the survey.
Read how we check our work and use contact to tell us about an error. These figures come from surveys or models. No report shows that bedding caused a pattern.
For a separate shopping task, our sheet comparison covers fit, fabric and care. Its picks are not a treatment or a conclusion drawn from these reports.
